Kanchipuram Brahmotsavam starts today

Kanchipuram Brahmotsavam starts today

The annual Kanchipuram Brahmotsavam for Sri Devaraja Perumal ("Kanchi Varadarajar") starts today. The third day of the Brahmotsavam (day after tomorrow) is the world-famous Garuda Seva. We have already discussed about the Live Telecast of Kanchipuram Garuda Seva here.

The Ahobilavalli team, who are pioneering to release a 250-page booklet on Sri Varadaraja Panchasath on the occasion of Garuda Seva. Sri Sadagopan Swami has also sent out a very beautiful picture of the Lord that would be going into one of the booklet. Stay tuned and keep visiting Ahobilavalli website.

At this instance, I could also fondly recall that about thirteen years back in 1995, just two days after Kanchipuram Garuda Seva, my Upanayam was scheduled and organized. There were sudden logistics and financial related problems interfering. With the grace of the Lord, these problems faded off and Upanayam (Brahmopadesam) went well.

Sri Vaishnava Network weblog crosses Centum Posts

Sri Vaishnava Network weblog crosses Centum Posts

This weblog, Sri Vaishnava Network, has slowly and humbly crossed its one-hundredth (post) a few minutes back. Dedicated to the service of Sri Vaishnava sampradaya and with its single-minded focus on service to devotees, we pray to the Lord that we get more opportunities to serve pilgrims and devotees with more vigor and passion.

It is always a great pleasure to serve His Lord and His devotees. This service is the only thing in the world that gives eternal pleasure and bliss than anything else. We would here like to quote Kulasekarazhwar Pasuram which states that 'Azhwar is reluctant to worldly pleasures even if given the kingdom of earth. He would rather prefer to be born as a fish in the pond of Thirupathi.

Sri Vedantha Desikar Vijayam

Sri Vedantha Desikar Vijayam

Just it caught my attention today while flicking channel switches in my television remote in the morning. This is a very unique programme called 'Sri Vedantha Desikar Vijayam' that is telecasted every Sunday in Sanskar TV.

The programme commentary is given by Sri. Ananthapadmanabhachariar, who is also planning the Live Telecast of Kanchipuram Brahmotsavam Garuda Seva. I am trying to see if the programme organizers have recorded versions too for the benefit of people in regions where Sanskar TV is currently unavailable.

Stay tuned to your Sanskar TV on sundays.

Sri Vaishnava Network website in Alpha

Sri Vaishnava Network website in Alpha

Crossing many hurdles imposed by different diversified quarters, our humble Sri Vaishnava network website has been released with little content. Currently it has been branded as Alpha, the first stepping stone. There are lot of content in pipeline. We have more authors distributed across the globe to author it.

My sincere thanks to Aravinthan Narayanan for his affectionate suggestion a couple of days back on the other blog post on Kanchipuram Garuda Seva regarding the 'service to community'. He earns the pride and prestige of having the website shed out of darkness to see the Internet light breaking all barriers and hurdles. My sincere thanks to him for the same.

Also my sincere thanks to Deevalur N Srinivasan, who keep telling me that there is no use waiting for the full release. With good content in hand and we being in the service-oriented website, keep releasing it, instead of waiting for Amavasai and Pournami. My sincere thanks to him for the same.

And not without any say, my thanks to the Lord for His blessings too.

We have a definite release schedule for the different components. I am trying to make a HTML version of the schedule and publish it also. Do send me your feedback and what you would like to see in the website.

The URL of the parent website is here and the website is powered by Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 framework and it also supports 1.1 framework.

Viswaroopa Lakshmi Nrusimhan

Viswaroopa Lakshmi Nrusimhan

[Sri Viswaroopa Lakshmi Narasimhan]

It is with great pleasure that I would like to share with other readers regarding this new temple of Viswaroopa Lakshmi Narasimhan that is being constructed in the Kattavakkam village, Walajabad near Kanchipuram. I would like to sincerely thank sgpeetam (at) gmail.com for letting me keeping posted about the developments of the temple.

The temple trustees have currently successfully completed the installation of the Moola Vigraham of the idol on 2nd May, 2007. The day was uniquely auspicious converging the twin benefits of Chitra Pournami (The Purnima/Full Moon Day of the Chitra Tamil Month) alongside with the the fact that the guiding star of the day was Swathi, the star that is dedicated to the worship of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha.

The installation procedure was carried along with elaborate processes punctuated by Gata Sthapanam, Kalasa Pooja, Vasthu Homam, Prathistha Homam and other holy rituals associated with the process by dedicated vidwaks under the elite leadership of scholar Dr. Lakshmi Narayana Bhattar (Salem) and Shri K Parthasarathy Swami of Sri Rangam. This was followed by copious abhishekam (Thirumanjanam) of the idol by cow's milk and tender cocunut.

The devotees were thrilled at the gigantic and majestic sixteen feet tall idol of the Lord with an amazing smile on His face. The total height of the Lord till the hoods of Adhi Sesha comes to about twenty five feet. This idol of the Lord ("Divya Mangala Moola Vigraham") has the distinct features that befit the descriptions in Brahma Stuthi ("Dhyana Sloka") of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Sahasranama Stotra. As per the description, the Lord displays an extremely pleased and an amazing smiling face and posture (Athip Prasanna Vadhanam) with a very kind mood to bless all His devotees. The Lord is seated in His yogic posture with his consort Lordess Lakshmi on His left lap embracing Him with Her right hand and holding a lotus flower on Her left hand. The Lord holds His Sudharshana Chakra on His back left hand and bow-and-arrow on His back right hand. This indicates His intention of holding the bow and arrow in His subsequent incarnation as Lord Rama. His forehands are respectively Abhaya Hasta and Varada Hasta postures. Lord Narasimha is also known as Adhirudra in whose holy form with three eyes; the third one is in His forehead and the Adhisesha above His head with seven hoods (like the seven flames of the fire Sapta Jihva). Each hood has a crowning and sparkling Nagarathina above each head.

Till the date of Samprokshanam, the temple management has planned the following programmes:

  1. Sahasranama Archana -- Daily at 8 PM.
  2. Go Pooja -- Friday at 6 PM.
  3. Sri Narasimha Homams -- 4 PM on all Pradosham days and 8 AM on all Swathi days.
Additionally, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Moola Mantra Homam is planned on May 13th, 2007 (Sunday) under the leadership of Sri Parthasarathy Swami.

The temple trustees and the management extend a cordial red carpet welcome to all devotees to participate in all of the programmes to get His divine blessings. They are also planning to construct a befittingly excellent temple of exquisite grandeur in the calm and serene village of Kattavakkam strictly adhering to the Agama principles over the coming months. The construction plans outlines and encompasses schedules for

  1. Garba Griham
  2. Moolas Sthana Vimanam
  3. Artha Mandapam
  4. Maha Mandapam
  5. Dhwajas Sthambam
  6. Pradhana Gopuram
  7. Thiru Madapalli
  8. Temple Premises Walls (Madhil Walls)
  9. Separate Shrines for Sri Thayar, Sri Andal, Nithyasooris like Sri Garuda, Sri Andal and Azhwars.
