Kozhikuthi Sri Vanamutti Perumal (aka) Sri Srinivasa Perumal

Kozhikuthi Sri Vanamutti Perumal (aka) Sri Srinivasa Perumal

It is about a week back. I guess from a devotee at Sri Ahobila Mutt, Selayur, I got the information about this unique Sri Vaishnava temple dedicated to Sri Vanamutti Perumal. He is also known as Sri Srinivasa Perumal. All that I got about the temple were two details:

  1. A simple ten digit mobile number of a contact person of the Sabha (+91 98400 53289). I guess, the person who has helped me has again just seen an advertisement and wanted to inform others on a good samaritan gesture.
  2. There is a Samprokshanam of this unique temple sometime in the week of 5th July 2007 to 14th July 2007. But for the query of 'When?', he was not able to answer.

Well! All set. It was all for me to set on an information gathering spree. But I could just get the details only day before yesterday. That is one-day after the Samprokshanam for two reasons:

  1. The representative contact number was either sounding 'Switched Off' or 'Unreachable' continously, thanks to Bharti Airtel.
  2. It might be the divine sankalpa for me to get the information only on Friday. :)

Well! Thats about how I got the information. Now I would like to give a brief introduction to the temple from the advertisement brochure that the Chennai representative gave me for the benefit of other readers as well. The temple also has a website on thier own and you can visit it here.

The following is the moola manthra of the Lord Sri Vanamutti Perumal:

லக்ஷ்மிபதே கமலநாப சுரேஷ விஷ்ணு
வைகுண்ட க்ருஷ்ண மதுசூதன ஸ்ரீ ஸ்ரீனிவாசா
ப்ரமண்ய கேசவ ஜனார்தன சக்ரபாணே
விஸ்வரூப விபோ மமதேஹி கராவலம்பம்

Presiding Deities of the temple:

  1. Sri Vanamutti Perumal (aka) Sri Srinivasa Perumal
  2. Thayar: Sri Daya Lakshmi
  3. Sri Yoga Narasimhar
  4. Sri Sapthaswara Hanumar
  5. Sri Ramanujar
  6. Sri Nardhana Krishna
  7. Sri Viswaksenar

Theertham: Viswa Pushkarini. There are seven wells which indicate the seven holy rivers. It is said that the Pushkarini was created by the Lord Himself. There is also a cave path (சுரங்க பாதை). The temple tank is located at the right side of the temple, which is considered very significant. A holy dip in this temple tank is considered a greatest cure for all diseases since the temple history itself reveals that the Lord has cured Pippalar Maharishi of his severe disease by asking him to start on a pilgrimage visiting all temples en route the river Cauvery till finally the Lord would give His darshan to him at this Kshetra.

The temple is considered to be about 2000 years old. Since the presiding deity of the temple is carved out of Athimaram, He has only Sambirani Kappu. The history says the temple had seven prakarams but currently it has only one.

Uniqueness: The Lord gives His divine darshan at this temple in a very holy way that the moolavar is carved out of Athimaram and is about 18 feet high with the holy conch, the chakra, the gadha, Abhayahastham with a uniquely tainted Ajantha colouration. With even the roots of Athimaram holding the Lord, this is significantly unique across the universe. It is said that lighting the holy lamp here once also would get enormous blessings of the Lord.

It is also said that the Sani Gayatri released by Pippalar Maharishi is significantly respected for any defects/deficiencies due to the planet Saturn in the horoscopes.

The holy stone carvings at this temple also reveals that for fifty one weeks and on every Saturday for 11 Brahmins, the temple management was authorized and empowered to distribute holy oil for head bath and food items. All these indicate this temple as a Sani Temple Parikara Sthalam.

Thayar Sri Daya Lakshmi is considered to eradicate the sufferings of the devotee in just a jiff.

Sri Yoga Narasimhar here is considered powerful in that worshipping him during Pradosham is sure to cure of any Angaraha Dosham. Alongside, he is considered to cure planetary defects/deficiencies, debt issues, uncurable diseases, enemy problems.

Sri Bhaktha Anjaneyar here is about four feet high and is considered to bless with victory in our works. The tail of Him comes close to His head and there is a small bell tied in His tail. He is also known as Sapthaswara Anjayaneyar, since tapping any part of His holy body would give a unique musical note. A unique Abhishekam to Him with milk, curd (yoghurt), cocunut water, honey, sandalwood paste and fruits is a sure remedy to cure off all evils accumulated in other births too. A ghee lamp to Him is considered a sure victory in our tasks.

  • I GOT a very great opportunity of visiting the Vanamutti Perumal temple with 3 of my friends. The work done by the Trustee Shri Soo Vijayakumar and other philanthropists are remarkable in renovating such an old temple. Smt & Shri Vijayakumar took their time to be with us during our visit and they explained the history of the temple. Being a vaishavite, I am so happy to see the revival of such an ancient temple. May God bless the family with more and more wealth and healthy live
