Sri Jayanthi on September 15 The Sri Vaishnavite version of Sri Krishna Jayanthi (aka) Gokulashtami, which is observed as Sri Jayanthi is celebrated on September 15, 2006. Lord Krishna is a favorite deity for everyone. He is adored and liked by everyone for His childhood pranks and mischiefs. He is also regarded greatly for His divine love and Rasa Leela with Radha (aka) Radhika and other Gopikas.
Sri Jayanthi is commomerated as His birth day. The houses are decorated with greatest care. Small feet are drawn with rice flour from the entrance till the Pooja room. This is to indicate and welcome Lord Krishna into the house. Special dishes are also cooked. The special items normally are:
- Murukku
- Seedai
- Vella Seedai (Sweet Seedai)
- Thenkozhal
- Payasam (Sweet Nectar)
- Nagappazham
During the evening it is customary to ask with the nieghbors 'Krishnan unga veetukku vandhacha?' (Has Lord Krishna come to your house?)
Lord Krishna was also best known for His Bhagavat Gita. Let us pray Lord Krishna for His divine blessings for prosperity and success throughout.
