Sri Prasanna Varadharaja Perumal Koil, Morapakkam village (near Madurantakam)
I came to know from a yahoogroups about Sri Prasanna Varadharaja Perumal Koil in Morappakkam Village near Maduranthakam, Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu. This temple is a one thousand year old temple located very near to Chennai. The temple comes under the Hindu Religious Endowment Board. Over the years, the temple has not seen any
repair work due to paucity of funds. Due to lack of maintenance over the years, the temple was in a ruined state. Because of fragile walls and cracked ceiling, rainwater seeped
inside the temple flooding the sanctum sanctorum. The idols were literally surrounded by knee-deep waters and the temple was in a pathetic state last year (2005) during the rainy season. The wetness that was retained in the temple walls, paved the way for fungus formation and plants have grown over it after some months.
On seeing this, a family who lived there for years in the village took the initiative and has taken up the renovation work with their means. The villagers and well-wishers have put in their efforts to get the samprokshanam done recently. You can check out the temple website over here. The samprokshanam seems to have covered only minimum amount of repair work and they still have a larger number of renovation efforts held back due to paucity of funds. If you are interested to help them, please contact the samprokshanam organizer at the following address:
